Simple is sometimes best
Here are some easy steps you can take to keep Laurel Run clean:
- Leave grass clippings on the lawn. They are good fertilizer.
- Control soil erosion by planting trees, shrubs, and ground cover. They help keep soil in your yard, rather than allowing it to be washed into the stream. Soil washed from your yard is soil you will eventually have to replace.
- If your yard is close to the stream or a source of water that runs into the stream, let vegetation grow up along the waterway to slow runoff and trap pollutants.
- Repair vehicle oil, antifreeze, and transmission leaks promptly. Doing do will keep pollutants out of the stream and save costly repairs.
- Keep kitty litter handy to collect spills. After the liquid is absorbed, sweep it up and dispose of it properly.
- Consider household cleaner alternatives. Baking soda can be used to scrub sinks. White vinegar and water cleans ceramic tile floors, windows, and glass surfaces.
